Below are 5 examples of surveys carried out in the past and how Damp Detectives has helped save them money. If you have been quoted for works to solve a damp problem call us for a second opinion and be sure that the problem will be solved.
A lady living in a ground floor flat suffered with condensation and mould. A building surveyor blamed her style of living. We found the hot water supply tank and the central heating expansion tank did not have lids. Scientific measurement showed that large quantities of water were evaporating from them into the air. Cost to rectify £20
A building management company found that 3 flats in a block of 50 were suffering from mould for 5 years. To rectify this they installed £50,000 of insulation with no success. Damp Detectives carried out a survey and established the problem with each flat was historical and localised. We removed 800 Litres of moisture from the block with the tenants unaware of the works. Once a year for 3 years the Damp Detectives and the Surveyor carried out a joint inspection and proved the result a permanent success.
An insurance company paid £11,500 on flat roofing repairs over ten years to stop a leak appearing near a communal lift shaft, which was unsuccessful. Damp Detectives established the source of the leak was 15m from the repair work. It was rectified in half a day by a local builder.
A house owner had black mould growing around every double glazed window in his house. To combat condensation he increased the house temperature to 22°C with no effect. A builder carried out a survey and pronounced that his double glazing was at fault and would require replacing at £4500. A Damp Detective survey showed that he had 3 tiles missing in his roof, which over a period of time had made one of the walls in his house completely wet. The owner repaired the roof and arranged for the house to be dried dried the house in 3 days, and the problem was permanently solved.
A tenant in a local authority flat had complained of mould and damp for 7 years. She did not wish to move as the area was good for her children with schools etc. She suffered from headaches and depression and her children had respiratory problems (all are symptoms of mould inhalation). An official from the association had told her it was her life style. Both the press and Environmental Health became involved. A Damp Detective survey showed that during the 7 years two major water damage incidents had occurred through plumbing faults. The moisture was removed from the flat and the mould problem was rectified.
